Whitewater Kayaking Course Features
Systematic Skill ProgressionWe build skills methodically - mastering fundamentals before adding complexity, practicing in appropriate conditions before advancing difficulty. This systematic approach prevents overwhelming students while accelerating genuine development. You're never pushed beyond an appropriate challenge level, but you're consistently stretched to grow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Before You GoNot at all! While whitewater kayaking has a learning curve, proper instruction makes it accessible to most reasonably fit adults. We start with absolute basics in flatwater, progress gradually, and never push beyond appropriate challenge levels. Yes, you'll capsize and swim occasionally (part of learning), but you'll develop real skills systematically and safely.
This varies tremendously by individual, practice frequency, and natural ability. Most people run easy Class II rapids confidently after 2-3 days of instruction. Solid intermediate skills (comfortable Class II-III) typically require 5-10 days of instruction plus independent practice. Advanced paddling demands years of progression. The key is quality instruction early - proper fundamentals accelerate everything downstream.
Not for beginner courses! We teach wet exit and self-rescue first. Rolling instruction comes after you've developed basic boat control and river skills. Many kayakers enjoy Class II rivers for years before learning to roll. However, rolling becomes increasingly important as rivers get harder - it's essentially required for Class III+ progression.
