Private Whitewater Inflatable Kayak Trips on the Snake River

Private Whitewater Ducky Trip

The Most Exciting Way to Experience the Snake River — Command Your Own Kayak Through Class III Rapids

What it is: Private whitewater ducky trips on the Snake River where you control your own inflatable kayak through the Class III rapids of the Grand Canyon of the Snake. Dedicated guides provide instruction and custom pacing, with half-day (4.5 hours) and full-day (8 hours) options.

Why it’s special: This is whitewater rafting reimagined—no crowded raft, no passenger seat. Duckies ride low in the water, making Class I–II rapids feel larger and Class III waves like Double Draw, Big Kahuna, Lunch Counter, Champagne, and more feel absolutely mammoth. You feel every wave and make your own lines.

The experience: Hands-on, challenging, exhilarating, and skill-building. Half-day trips deliver concentrated adrenaline; full-day trips combine scenic upper sections with exciting canyon whitewater and include a riverside lunch.

Who’s it for: All abilities—even first-timers—who want a private whitewater adventure. Adventurous kids 8+ can paddle tandem with an adult. No previous river experience necessary; our instructors teach paddling technique, reading whitewater, and tailor the day to your group's abilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Go

Absolutely not! While these are Class III rapids, no previous river experience is necessary. Our expert instructors will teach you everything you need to know before you launch. The tandem kayaks are stable, and your guide stays with you throughout providing coaching and support. Thousands of first-time paddlers have successfully completed these trips and had the time of their lives

Class III rapids feature moderate, irregular waves, strong eddies, and require maneuvering. They're exciting and will get your adrenaline pumping, but they're accessible to beginners with proper instruction. From a ducky perspective (riding low in the water), they feel BIG - which is part of what makes this adventure so thrilling. Your guide will help you navigate your line through each rapid.

Flipping is possible on any whitewater trip - it's part of the adventure! Our tandem inflatable kayaks are very stable, and most people complete the trip without flipping. But if you do, the Snake River is deep and forgiving, and we'll teach you how to properly exit and re-enter your boat (or your guide will help). Many guests say flipping was the most fun part of their day

That's completely normal and exactly why private trips are perfect! Your guide will assess your comfort level and adjust the experience accordingly. They can coach you through calmer lines in rapids, provide extra support and encouragement, and paddle alongside you. You're never forced beyond what you're ready for. The goal is challenge and excitement, not terror

Yes! Families with adventurous kids 8 and older love these trips. The tandem kayaks mean parents and teens paddle together, which builds confidence and creates shared memories. Many parents report this as a highlight of their family vacation - a genuine adventure where everyone feels challenged and proud of their accomplishment

Whitewater trips require more physical effort than scenic trips - you'll be actively paddling, maneuvering, and powering through waves. A reasonable base level of fitness will make your trip more enjoyable, but you don't need to be an athlete. If you're reasonably active and willing to dig in when needed, you'll do great. Adrenaline carries you surprisingly far

Full-day trips start with scenic upper sections where you'll build skills and confidence in gentler sections. Midday, we stop for a riverside lunch with fresh, delicious food (dietary restrictions accommodated). The afternoon brings the exciting whitewater of the Snake River Canyon. You get the complete river experience - skills, scenery, and serious whitewater thrills

Yes, absolutely! This is the beauty of private trips. Your guide can choose lines through rapids that match your comfort level - whether that means the easiest, most conservative route or the biggest, most challenging waves. As you gain confidence, you can progressively tackle bigger challenges throughout the day

We continuously monitor river conditions and will communicate with you if conditions affect your trip. Very high water may require adjusting routes or schedules for safety. Very low water might mean less exciting rapids but more technical maneuvering. Your guide will always choose the best available option and ensure you have a great experience regardless of conditions

Rafting puts you in a large boat with 6-14 people where you're mostly a passenger. Ducky trips put you in command of your own tandem kayak where YOU navigate, make decisions, and power through rapids. You feel every wave intimately, have freedom to maneuver, and develop actual paddling skills. It's exponentially more engaging and exciting. Once you've ducked, you'll never want to be a raft passenger agai

Yes! Solo pricing is available, though it's naturally higher since you have a dedicated guide. Many solo travelers join our morning group trips (June 20 through September 7) where you'll experience the same Class III whitewater with other adventurers and pay less. But if you want the private, customized experience just for yourself, we're happy to accommodate

We want to help get you on the water! If you don't see availability for what you want or you're trying to make a last-minute reservation, we may still be able to accommodate you. Private trips offer more scheduling flexibility than group departures. Please reach out to us at info@jacksonholekayak.com, call (307) 733-2471, or swing by our shop at 945 W. Broadway Ave. We'll work with you to make your whitewater adventure happe
