Monster SUPs

Giant Boards

Monster SUPs are oversized paddleboards (typically 14-16′ long and extra wide) designed to accommodate multiple paddlers simultaneously – think of them as party platforms on the water. These massive boards can carry 4-8 people depending on size, making them perfect for unique group experiences.

Great for families wanting everyone on one board, friend groups seeking social paddling, kids who love the novelty of giant boards, SUP yoga sessions with multiple participants, and anyone wanting something different from traditional solo paddling.

Monster SUPs require coordination between paddlers but deliver huge fun factor. They’re stable enough for kids and less experienced paddlers, yet engaging for everyone. Perfect for calm lake days and creating memorable group moments on the water.

Ideal For:

  • Families with multiple kids
  • Friend groups wanting shared experiences
  • Team-building and group activities
  • SUP yoga or fitness classes
  • Creating unique, social water adventures

Available at select locations during peak season.

What Makes Our SUP Rentals Different

Current Models, Premium Brands

We stock SUPs from respected manufacturers known for quality construction and performance – Badfish, Sol, Starboard, Hala, and NRS. Our fleet features this year’s and last year’s models, not decade-old rental boards with doubtful history. Quality equipment makes SUP easier, more enjoyable, and more successful for beginners.

Proper Fitting and Instruction

Board size matters – too small and you’ll struggle with stability; too large and you’ll sacrifice maneuverability. We match boards to your weight, ability, and intended use. Every rental includes instruction on proper stance, basic paddle technique, getting back on after falling, and safety considerations. A small time investment up front makes a huge difference on the water.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Go

Not at all! Most people stand and paddle within 10-15 minutes on lake water. SUP is remarkably accessible – easier to learn than most people expect. Yes, you might fall while learning (it’s part of the process and usually involves more laughter than frustration), but getting back on is straightforward. We provide instruction with every rental covering stance, balance, paddle technique, and safety. Choose early morning conditions for easiest learning.

All-around boards in the 10’6″-11′ range offer the best stability and forgiveness for beginners. Wider boards (31″-34″ wide) provide more initial stability. Inflatable SUPs are slightly more stable than hard-shells and more forgiving when you fall. We’ll recommend specific boards based on your weight, athletic ability, and where you plan to paddle. Most beginners SUP on our standard all-around models.

Excellent options include Slide Lake (stunning scenery, quieter alternative), Yellowstone Lake (vast wilderness paddling), and various river sections when flows are appropriate. Jackson Lake is available for overnight expeditions only. We provide detailed recommendations based on current conditions, your experience, and desired scenery. Morning paddling generally offers calmest conditions before afternoon winds develop.

Falling is normal when learning SUP – even experienced paddlers take occasional swims. The good news: you’re attached to your board via leash, wearing a PFD, and the water is manageable. Getting back on requires simple technique we demonstrate before you launch. Most people fall less than expected, and as balance develops, falls become rare. SUP in alpine lakes on warm days makes falling almost refreshing rather than concerning!

Kids often excel at SUP – their lower center of gravity can actually be an advantage. We typically recommend age 8-10+ depending on size, swimming ability, and comfort in water. Younger children can ride on boards with adults (especially on Monster SUPs). Kids should be comfortable swimmers since falling happens. Family SUP adventures create wonderful memories and get everyone active on beautiful waters.
