Cold Water Protection

Drysuits

Drysuits

Max Cold Protection

Drysuits provide complete waterproof protection, keeping you dry and warm even during extended cold water immersion. Essential for early season (April-June), late season (September-October), whitewater where swims are likely, and any cold water conditions. Quality models from Kokatat and NRS in various sizes.

Full Wetsuit

Wetsuits

Budget Cold Protection

Wetsuits provide insulation and protection at lower cost than drysuits. They work by trapping a thin layer of water your body heats – keeping you warm even when wet. Full-length and shorty styles available in various sizes. Perfect for summer whitewater and shoulder season paddling.

Paddle Jacket

Paddle Jackets

Wind and Splash Protection

Water-resistant shells with neoprene cuffs at wrists and waist to shed water. Ideal for cool, windy days when full immersion protection isn’t necessary, adding a layer over wetsuits, or protecting against wind chill on alpine lakes.

Drytop

Drytops

Waterproof Upper Body Protection

Like the upper half of a drysuit – fully waterproof with latex or neoprene gaskets at wrists and neck. Often worn with wetsuit pants for customized layering. Popular for kayakers and canoeists for spring and fall paddling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Go

Depends on season, water temperature, and activity. Snake River water stays cold (40s to 50s F) even in summer. For whitewater where immersion is likely, wetsuits or drysuits are highly recommended April-June and September-October. For calm lake paddling in summer (July-August), they’re usually unnecessary unless you’re very cold-sensitive. We monitor conditions and provide honest recommendations – your comfort and safety matter more than rental fees.

Drysuits keep you completely dry via waterproof seals – you stay warm even during extended immersion. Wetsuits allow water in but trap it against your skin where your body heat warms it – you get wet but stay warm. Drysuits are warmer, more comfortable, and better for very cold conditions but cost more to rent. Wetsuits are less expensive, work well for moderately cold conditions, but you will get wet.

Depends on what you’re carrying and trip length. For day trips: 10-20 liter bags protect phones, wallets, keys, snacks, and extra layers. For overnight camping: 60-110 liter bags carry sleeping bags, clothing, and camping gear. For group gear and coolers: multiple large bags. We’ll help you calculate appropriate sizes based on your specific gear list and trip length.

Yes – all kayak, canoe, raft, and SUP rentals include properly-fitted PFDs for all paddlers. However, if you need extras (additional passengers joining, kids requiring different sizes, or specialty PFDs for specific uses), those rent separately. We ensure everyone has appropriate, well-fitting flotation.

Absolutely! Many customers rent accessories to complement their own equipment – drysuits for their kayaks, dry bags for their rafts, upgraded paddles for their boats, etc. Whether you’re visiting with your own gear, own equipment but lack cold water protection, or just need specific accessories, we’re happy to rent a la carte.

Just ask! Describe your planned trip – where, when, what boats, skill level, group composition – and we’ll recommend appropriate accessories. We’d rather spend five minutes advising honestly than have you uncomfortable, under-prepared, or over-spending on unnecessary items. Three decades of local experience means we’ve seen every scenario and know what actually works.
