Why Learn Rafting with Rendezvous

Real River Experience

We don’t just teach techniques in parking lots. You’ll spend extensive time actually running the river with expert instructors coaching in real conditions. Real rapids, real decisions, real skill development that prepares you for independent river running.

Our instructors are Swift Water Rescue certified river professionals, with years of river experience. They’ve responded to real rescues, guided commercially, and understand what skills actually matter when things get complicated.

We teach complete river-running competence, not just boat handling but also water reading, risk assessment, rescue skills, equipment knowledge, and the judgment required for independent trips. You’ll leave understanding both how and why.

We assess abilities realistically and recommend appropriate progression. If you’re not ready for certain rivers, we’ll say so honestly and suggest alternatives. Your safety matters more than selling you advanced courses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Go

Scenic floats are passive experiences where you’re a passenger enjoying scenery and wildlife while guides handle everything. Rafting lessons are active skill development where you’re learning to captain rafts yourself, making decisions, and developing competence for independent river running. Both are valuable; they just serve different purposes.

Not for introduction courses! We teach complete beginners and build skills progressively from flatwater through whitewater. The most important requirements are reasonable fitness, comfort around water, ability to follow instructions, and willingness to learn. We meet you where you are and advance at an appropriate pace.

Other Rafting

Private Scenic Float

Wilson to South Park — a birding paradise

Drift through the heart of the Tetons on a private scenic float. Your expert guide handles the rowing while you soak in the mountain scenery, watch for moose, eagles, and otters along the banks, and learn about the Snake River’s Wild & Scenic designation. These gentle Class II floats suit all ages and abilities — perfect for families, photographers, and anyone seeking a relaxing river experience.

Packrafting

Ultralight Backcountry Boats

Packrafts are ultralight inflatable boats designed for hike-in, paddle-out adventures. Combine hiking and paddling in a single trip — carry your boat into remote waters inaccessible to traditional rafts, then paddle out through stunning backcountry terrain. We offer instruction for all levels, from first-time packrafters to experienced paddlers looking to push into whitewater.
