Use caution on all rivers. Water levels and potential river hazards are subject
to changes on an hourly basis. It is critical that river users accurately assess
current conditions and their own ability. Always have appropriate clothing,
safety equipment and the knowledge to use it. BE SAFE.
Note: River Flows are updated every hour - comments, including snowpack and reservoir levels are updated as levels change significantly or when we have time.
August 22,
The canyon is low, but still super fun. There are tons of wave trains to play around in and some great catch on the fly surfing. Burrito is at a fun wave/hole level. You can pull a lot of wave and hole moves. Blunts, spins all of the time and you can stick loops and cartwheels, but you need to wait for the right surge. The river is slowly dropping so with every day Burrito will be come more retentive. Kahuna is still a fun surf, and make sure you don't miss the California Curler at the top left of Ropes Rapid.
The Hoback is low, but still has lots of great eddy catching moves for boaters of all abilities. The Greys is at a great technical level with fun eddy moves and rock boofs. The Gros Ventre is a technical fun level with lots of great eddies to catch and moves to make. It doesn't have the same push at low water, but it is still not a fun river to swim.
In ID, the Teton is around 350cfs. This is pretty low, but it has been paddled down to 300cfs? If you are really excited about creeking give it a try. Beware of wood and rock sives with the low water. Bitch Creek is on the low side, but might still have enough water to paddle. Let me know if you go over there?
Have fun and be safe, and update us with any notable hazards. It is a great year to be a boater, see you on the river.
